Over the past year, Canadians have faced rising global uncertainty, higher costs, and economic pressures that have affected families and businesses alike. In response, the federal government’s Spring Economic Update 2026 focuses on what Canada can control: building a stronger economy, supporting affordability, creating good jobs, and keeping communities safe.
For families in Brampton, this update delivers targeted measures to help with the rising cost of living. More than 12 million Canadians will receive additional support through the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, helping families manage everyday expenses. Tax relief measures, lower fuel costs, and reduced banking fees are also putting more money back into Canadians’ pockets.
Housing remains one of the top concerns in Brampton. The Spring Economic Update invests in faster homebuilding through streamlined approvals, support for modular and factory-built housing, and over $7 billion in low-cost financing to accelerate rental construction. The government is also investing $1.7 billion to help provinces and municipalities remove barriers to housing development and reduce costs for builders.
The update also supports Brampton workers and manufacturers by strengthening Canada’s industrial and trade capacity. Our government will recruit and train up to 100,000 skilled trades workers by 2030 to help build homes, infrastructure, and major projects across the country. Investments in manufacturing, automotive production, defence industries, and critical minerals will help protect Canadian jobs and create new opportunities for workers in the Greater Toronto Area.
The Spring Economic Update includes tougher measures to protect public safety, including combatting fraud, money laundering, and organized crime, while strengthening law enforcement tools and investing in safer communities.
Our government’s focus is clear: build more homes, create better jobs, strengthen Canadian industries, and ensure communities like Brampton can thrive for generations to come.
