Dear Neighbours,

March has been an active month for Brampton Centre! From celebrating the holy month of Ramadan and recognizing International Women’s Day, to connecting with local businesses, community organizations, and residents, it has been great to engage with the community.

In this newsletter, you’ll find updates on what I’ve been working on, along with key initiatives and community highlights that continue to shape Brampton Centre.

  IN THE COMMUNITY

 Celebrating Ramadan Across our Community

During the holy month of Ramadan, I had the privilege of joining several iftar gatherings across our community, including the Annual Iftar Dinner hosted by the Mubarak Mosque.

These evenings were a chance to come together, share a meal, and spend time with neighbours. Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity, and giving back, and it was meaningful to see those values in action across Brampton Centre.

To everyone who observed, I hope you had a peaceful and joyful Ramadan.

Connecting with the Fijian Community

Earlier this month, I attended a meet and greet with the Fiji Association of Ontario, where I had the opportunity to connect with members of the Fijian community.

It was a great chance to listen, learn, and hear about their experiences, traditions, and contributions to our community. Thank you for the warm welcome and thoughtful conversations.

Visiting Southlake Seniors

It was a pleasure to visit the Southlake Seniors Club and spend time with its members. This wonderful group plays an important role in supporting seniors and helping them stay active, connected, and engaged in the community.

Supporting seniors is essential to building strong communities. Everyone deserves to feel included, valued, and supported as they age, and organizations like this make a real difference every day.

Thank you to everyone at the club for the warm welcome and for all the meaningful work you do.

Celebrating Cultural Fashion at Eid Edit 2026

On March 7, I had the opportunity to attend Eid Edit ’26, a vibrant celebration of fashion, culture, and community ahead of the Eid festivities.

The event brought together talented designers, entrepreneurs, and families, showcasing a mix of traditional and modern styles. It was great to see the work of so many local creatives and small businesses.

Events like these highlight the diversity of our community and the importance of supporting local talent and businesses.

Attending the Sai Dham Food Bank Gala

I had the honour of attending the Sai Dham Food Bank Gala, where members of the community came together to support programs that provide groceries and meals to seniors in need.

Food banks play a vital role in supporting individuals and families who may be struggling, helping ensure that everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food. Their work is especially important for seniors and others who may face barriers to accessing regular meals.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, this event will help make a real difference for those who need it most.

 CELEBRATING WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP

2026 inspiHER Gala

I was honoured to attend the 2026 inspiHER Gala in Brampton, celebrating International Women's Day.

The evening brought together business and community leaders to recognize the incredible women making a difference in our city, from entrepreneurs and artists to advocates and innovators. Congratulations to all the honourees and thank you to the organizers for a wonderful event!

EmpowHER & WE Event

On March 14, I had the pleasure of attending the annual WE Event at Brampton City Hall! This event honoured the participants of the EmpowHER program: young women who have dedicated hundreds of hours to serving their communities and making a real difference in the lives of others. It was wonderful to see so many of them sharing their ideas and being recognized for their leadership, advocacy, and contributions.

A big thank you to EmpowHER for creating a space that highlights and supports the incredible potential of young women. Our community is stronger when young women are encouraged to pursue their goals, and I look forward to seeing all that these remarkable young leaders accomplish!

Techstars Startup Weekend in Brampton

I had a great time visiting Techstars Startup Weekend in Brampton! Over just 54 hours, entrepreneurs came together to pitch ideas, form teams, and build innovative startups from the ground up.

It was great to celebrate International Women's Day alongside so many talented women entrepreneurs who are stepping up and leading the way.

I can't wait to see what these passionate builders achieve next!

 INVESTING IN BRAMPTON MANUFACTURING

Supporting Ukraine and Canadian Manufacturing

On March 17, I had the honour of joining Minister of National Defence David McGuinty at the Roshel production facility right here in Brampton. The visit highlighted Canada's continued commitment to Ukraine, with 383 Senator armoured vehicles manufactured by Roshel being donated as part of Canada's $6.5 billion military aid package.

Roshel's Made-in-Canada Senator vehicles have been widely used by Ukraine's Armed Forces since Russia's full-scale invasion began, and this latest commitment will further strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend its sovereignty. What makes this especially meaningful for our community is that Roshel employs nearly 500 workers right here in Brampton and Mississauga. This is a great example of Canadian innovation and manufacturing making a real difference both locally and globally.

 TAX SEASON REMINDERS

Don't Forget to File Your Taxes!

As we move through tax season, a friendly reminder that the deadline to file your 2025 income tax return is April 30, 2026, for most Canadians. Self-employed individuals have until June 15, 2026, to file; however, any taxes owed must still be paid by the April 30 deadline to avoid interest.
