Strengthening Local Food Security Across Canada

On March 3rd 2026, through the Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF), the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced a $30 million investment to support 235 approved projects across Canada. These investments will help food banks, community kitchens, farms and local organisations to expand their capacity to grow, store, produce and distribute food within our communities.

Two options have been made available for companies. Under the Large-Scale projects stream, 58 initiatives will receive $17.5 million in funding, with grants ranging from $150,000 to $500,000. Under the Small-Scale Projects stream, 177 initiatives will share $12.5 million, with grants between $25,000 and $100,000.

Earlier this year, our government also announced an additional $20 million to support food banks and other national, regional and local organizations delivering more nutritious food to families who need it.

Investments like these strengthen domestic good production, reduce barriers to food accessibility and build more resilient local supply chains. Supporting local food infrastructure ensures communities, across Canada, and in Brampton, have reliable access to healthy food while strengthening local agricultural economies.

Our government will continue investing in solutions that help citizens, making direct changes in people's lives.
